About the Recipe
These spiced baked apples bring together everything I love about cozy, comforting desserts. Inspired by the Swiss tradition of wholesome, rustic flavors, they remind me of the classic muesli I grew up enjoying—a mix of oats, nuts, and fruit that’s simple yet deeply satisfying. I’ve taken those same elements and transformed them into this dessert, with apples as the star.
The filling is a mix of dates, pecans, almonds, and hazelnuts, lightly spiced with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves for that perfect blend of warmth and aroma. As they bake, the apples become tender and juicy, creating a delightful contrast with the crunchy, spiced filling.
What I love most about this recipe is its versatility. Served straight from the oven with a generous scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream, it feels like a celebration of fall’s best flavors. But it’s just as lovely as a lighter dessert after a hearty meal or even a sweet breakfast treat for a cozy weekend morning.
These baked apples are easy to make, filled with ingredients you likely already have in your pantry, and guaranteed to fill your kitchen with the irresistible scent of spiced apples. Whether you’re sharing them with friends and family or treating yourself, I hope they bring the same warmth and comfort to your home as they do to mine. Let’s get baking!

1. Can I use a different type of dried fruit instead of dates? Yes, you can substitute dates with dried apricots or cranberries for a tangy twist that complements the warm spices beautifully.
2. How do I store leftovers? Store leftover baked apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat them in the microwave or oven when ready to serve.
3. Can I use a different mix of nuts? Absolutely! Feel free to use your favorite combination of nuts, such as walnuts (if no allergy), pistachios, or cashews, to customize the flavor and texture.
4. What’s the best apple to use for baking? Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji apples work best because they hold their shape during baking and balance the sweetness of the filling.
5. Can I make these in advance? Yes, you can prepare the filling and core the apples ahead of time. Assemble them just before baking to keep the apples fresh.
