10 Cozy Soups to Warm You Up This Fall

Updated: 19 hours ago

Fall is definitely soup season around here. The second the mornings turn crisp and the leaves start doing their thing, I start craving big bowls of something cozy—creamy, brothy, a little spicy… anything that warms me up from the inside out.

Some of the soups in this list have been on repeat in my kitchen for years. A few are tied to my Swiss roots, and others are newer favorites I’ve come to love. They’re the kinds of recipes you can throw on the stove with little effort making the house smell amazing, and sit down to enjoy with a chunk of bread or just straight from the pot (no judgment).

Whether you're feeding your family or just yourself, these are the 10 cozy fall soups I always come back to once the weather turns chilly.

1. Creamy Potato, Leek & Sausage Soup

This rustic soup is the definition of comfort food—soft chunks of potato, buttery leeks, and crumbled sausage all come together in a creamy, cozy broth. It’s simple, filling, and the kind of soup that gets even better the next day.

2. Swiss Pancake Soup (Flädlisuppe)

A classic from the Swiss-German side of my childhood: thin crepe-style pancakes sliced into ribbons and floated in clear, savory broth. It’s light, nostalgic, and somehow both elegant and homey at once.

3. Creamy Cauliflower Soup

Two bowls of creamy soup garnished with a crumbled hard boiled egg, crispy scallions and spices.

Don’t underestimate the power of a humble cauliflower. Blended into a silky soup with a touch of nutmeg or thyme, this one is perfect for pairing with a sharp cheese toast or drizzle of olive oil. Elegant enough for guests but easy enough for any weeknight.

4. Chestnut Soup

Small rustic bowl of creamy chestnut soup with a swirl of white cream and bits of crispy bacon.

Rich and velvety, this soup is deeply satisfying and slightly sweet. It’s my go-to for cozy evenings or when I want something a little special. A swirl of cream or bits of crispy bacon on top is all it needs.

5. Turmeric & Coconut Soup

Beautiful bright yellowy orange turmeric soup with kale and chickpeas.

This soup is sunshine in a bowl. Made with ginger, turmeric, and creamy coconut milk, it’s warming, nourishing, and just the thing for those days when your body (and soul) need a little extra care.

6. Spiced Pumpkin Soup

Two bowls of creamy pumpkin soup with swirls of cream and toasted pumpkin seeds on a fall inspired tablescape.

A fall classic with a little extra kick—this pumpkin soup is smooth and comforting with just the right amount of spice. I love to top it with a swirl of crème fraîche or toasted pepitas for crunch.

7. Swiss Barley Soup (Gerstensuppe)

A bowl of barley and veggie soup with a slice of bread on the side.

Hearty, creamy, and packed with root vegetables, barley, and often a bit of smoked meat, this soup is a staple in Swiss mountain kitchens—and in mine. It’s rib-sticking in the best way.

8. Beet & Butternut Squash Soup

Vibrant bowl of creamy red beet and butternut squash soup topped with a dollop of sour cream and micro greens.

This one is as gorgeous as it is delicious—deep ruby red from the beets and naturally sweet from the roasted squash. I love garnishing it with yogurt and fresh herbs. It’s a showstopper that’s surprisingly easy to make.

9. Celery Root & Ginger Soup

Celeriac is one of those underused vegetables that truly shines in soup. Blended with a bit of ginger, this version is velvety, fragrant, and perfect for a quiet fall lunch.

10. Classic Minestrone

A full bowl of classic minestrone soup with noodles and vegetables in a tomato based broth.

A nourishing, vegetable-packed classic that’s endlessly adaptable to whatever’s in season. I often finish it with a spoonful of pesto stirred in just before serving—it adds so much flavor and depth.

These soups are more than just recipes—they’re seasonal rituals I return to year after year. Whether you’re reaching for something creamy, brothy, spiced, or hearty, I hope one (or more!) of these cozy bowls finds its way to your table.
